Cost-Share Assistance for Forestry Practices
Forests play a vital role in protecting water quality, stabilizing soil, supporting wildlife, and maintaining the natural character of Kanabec County and its surrounding watersheds. Whether you’re managing a small woodlot or a larger forested property, there are opportunities to improve forest health through sustainable management practices.
Kanabec SWCD offers cost-share assistance for forestry practices that help protect and restore forested areas across the Snake River, Rum River, and Kettle/Upper St. Croix Watersheds.
Eligible projects may include:
- Woodland stewardship plan development
- Tree planting (conifers and hardwoods)
- Forest stand improvement (e.g., thinning, invasive species removal)
- Site preparation and protection (e.g., bud capping, tree tubes, weed control)
These practices help landowners improve timber quality, create wildlife habitat, reduce erosion, and support long-term forest sustainability.
Our Shared Services Forester can help walk your site, develop a plan tailored to your goals, and guide you through the cost-share process from start to finish.
