Education & Outreach

A group of people observe a demonstration outdoors, with some seated and others standing, amidst fields and equipment.

Watershed-based education and outreach are an important part of local conservation work. Kanabec SWCD works with landowners, lake associations, community groups, schools, and local partners to help connect people with the landscape around them and build understanding of water, soil, forests, habitat, and conservation practices.

Our outreach efforts range from public workshops, field tours, demonstrations, and community events to classroom activities and technical education programs.

Topics may include:

  • Watersheds and water quality
  • Stormwater runoff
  • Soil health and erosion
  • Shoreland stewardship
  • Aquatic invasive species (AIS)
  • Groundwater and drinking water
  • Forestry and habitat
  • Conservation practices for working lands

Kanabec SWCD may also be available to provide presentations, demonstrations, or educational activities for local groups and events, including schools, lake associations, neighborhoods, community organizations, and public events. Topics and activities can often be adapted for different audiences and age groups.
